Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially opened the new Turkevi Center in New York. Turkevi alias Turkish House which is a 171-meter-high structure with 32-stories is right across the UN in Manhattan.
The official opening of the Turkish House, whose foundation was laid on September 18, 2017, was held with a ceremony on September 20, 2021.
This remarkable skyscraper will serve as the headquarters of multiple Turkish diplomatic missions in New York, as well as a center of Turkish cultural activities. There is the Permanent Representation of Turkey and the Consulate General of New York in the 32-storey Turkish House. There is also an auditorium for 200 people, meeting and exhibition halls.

Turkish House, alias Turkevi, by New York-based architecture company Perkins Eastman as a 32-story skyscraper having a shining glass exterior. The outstanding structure also provides views of the East River, Long Island City, and Downtown Manhattan.
The building bears traces of Seljuk and Ottoman architecture. That is why it has the shape of a tulip. Tulip is an important motif of the Ottoman era. It is a symbolic skyscraper that will reflect Turkish culture, history, and diversity.
“We are Proud of Turkish House”
At the opening ceremony, President Erdogan highlighted important points about Turkevi which is in Manhattan, NYC. According to his remarkable speech, Turkevi will give significant messages to the world with its many outstanding features.
President Erdogan said, “We will carry out our consulate general services in this building. I believe that our new building will be a center of attraction. It will also host political, economic and cultural events. ’’
He also emphasized once again that the doors of our Turkevi building are open to everyone. ‘’I have no doubt that our Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also carry out the operation of our building with this embracing politics.”
Construction Materials from Turkey
While wishing the best for the new Turkish House structure, the foundation of which was laid 4 years ago, President Erdogan noted that the materials used in the construction of the building were mostly brought from Turkey.
After underlining that the design of the building having environmental sensitivity, the Turkish President also declared that “Turkey has created a masterpiece that reflects the increasing power of it.”
