Yesterday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan went to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), for a two-day official visit. Burj Khalifa, Dubai’s iconic skyscraper, lit up with the Turkish flag ahead of Erdogan’s UAE visit.

On the first day of the visit, the UAE and Turkey signed 13 agreements including the topics of the defense industry, health, climate change, industry, technology, culture, agriculture, trade, economy, land, maritime transport, disaster management, meteorology and communication.

President Erdogan's visit was also a new step for the rapid development of relations after years of tension.

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also paid an official visit to Turkey last November.

Turkey and the UAE moving on to new beginnings

UAE and Turkey had broken relations in the international arena and many regional issues until recently. However, both countries have embodied their normalization efforts, which have gained momentum as of 2021. A dialogue door has been opened between Turkey and the UAE through bilateral visits. Both countries have expressed their desire to leave disagreement in the past.

A historic day in Turkey-UAE relations

Erdogan's visit to Abu Dhabi aimed to strengthen the cooperation with the UAE and Turkey. Trade, energy, security, and regional peace were among the main topics. Besides, both countries stated that they wanted to double bilateral trade volume. Defense and industrial cooperation were on the agenda as well. As a result of the Turkish President's visits to Abu Dhabi, the leaders of the two countries discussed further cooperation and investment opportunities.

The economy was the main topic of the official visit

The Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the United Arab Emirates signed 13 agreements in the fields of the defense industry, health, climate change, industry, technology, culture, agriculture, trade, economy, land, sea transport, youth, disaster management, meteorology and communication.
