Commercial Flights at Istanbul Airports Increased by 45 percent

Commercial flights at Istanbul airports increased by 45 percent during the 11-month period of 2021. The amount of freight transported from 3 airports in Istanbul, on the other hand, increased by 30 percent.

During the period of Covid-19, airline companies have suspended flights. Hence, commercial flights have gained more importance all around the world. Because air cargo has always provided fast and easy transportation. Besides, some problems in road and sea transportation for the transportation of goods and products to various points of the world have caused airways to be more popular day by day.

Air traffic has gained importance with the measures. Significant increases in the amount of baggage and cargo carried from the airports in Istanbul, one of the world’s important aviation centers, and in commercial flights have also reflected the statistics.

The transported cargo increased by 553,578 tons

According to the data of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI);

  • 798,134 tons of cargo transported from Ataturk Airport in the January-November period.
  • In the January-November period, a total of 261,143 tons of cargo was transported from Sabiha Gokcen International Airport.
  • A total of 1,317,068 tons of cargo was transported to other destinations in January and November at Istanbul Airport.

By comparison with the same period of 2020, the cargo transported by Istanbul-based air flights increased by 553,578 tons. Thus, the amount of freight transported increased by 30 percent when we compare it to the same period of 2020.

427,264 commercial flights from Istanbul

Commercial flights at Istanbul airports increased by 45 percent when we compare it to the January-November period of 2020. So that, commercial flights at Istanbul airports increased by 131 thousand 933 in January and November of 2021.

The number of passengers at Istanbul airports increased by 49%

The number of passengers traveling from Istanbul’s airports in the 11 months of the year increased by 49%. There was a significant increase in passenger and flight statistics at Istanbul Airport, Sabiha Gokcen and Ataturk airports in 2021 compared to 2020.

The number of airports in Turkey will increase to 61 next year

Adil Karaismailoglu, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, stated that 56 airports are currently active and added. “We will add 5 more airports to 61 next year,”

In his speech at the Platin Global 100 Awards 2021 program, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu talked about the contributions of transportation and infrastructure projects to the country’s economy as well as employment, trade, tourism, agriculture and other fields.
